This may be one of my shortest blog posts (bar the video ones, possibly) ever.
I'm in Jamaica; I spent the most amazing weekend at the Calabash Literary Festival in Treasure Beach where I listened to words, met Kei Miller (and his resonating poetry), reconnected with old friends and got the worst sunburn I've gotten in the past six years (and didn't care).
I blogged my experience for Nicholas Laughlin over at the Caribbean Review of Books blog, Antilles. If you're interested, check it out there.
A side effect of listening to all the literature was the drive to write a little of my own (I know... I know... what am I, twelve?). So here's a little something I scribbled on the last day. As usual, it's baaaaaad poetry. But I think it may actually be poetry, of sorts.
The starving thing that lives in my chest fallsand breakstoo often and often too self-indulgently,through no fault but its own.If ever I have an undoing, that scalded armadillo will be its cause.I spend too much time trying to mend thisbroken, hyperbolic thing.

5 wonderful people responded... will you?:
well as much as poetry bores me, i read your blog for that article! And i actually read the WHOLE blog/article u wrote! I felt like i had been there with u and was not bored! However this doesn't change my mind about poetry.....just shows how good a writer u are! Good job Wiv! I really enjoyed the article! Glad u are having such a good time xx
Trying to detach with love at this moment but failing after reading the blog. I am jealous, jealous, jealous but glad for you same way.
Drink deep at clear water for it is sure you will be thirsty again. (I think I may have made up this "proverb")
you went calabash?? i'm jealous! good for you!
You are a fantastic writer William. Wanted to start one just about me as a way of venting I guess what is not necessarily acceptable to say and not worry what anyone thinks. Tanya suggested I read yours. I'm no writer my craft is actually custom built cakes. Your are gifted with words and shall I say very brave to say the things you say and not worried you may be viewed as crazy as I am called many times. Brilliant writer and yes Calabash was lovely.
Thanks for sharing.

You are a fantastic writer William and quite open with who you are. You are quite courageous. Wish start a blog just to express myself so I wont go crazy storing all these things up and Tanya suggested I have a look at your blog. I am no writer my craft is custom built cakes. Yes it is good to know you are not alone. I sometimes wonder how most people seems to go around functioning as if they are all together.
Brilliant writing and yes Calabash was lovely.
