I'm sorry but its great that Obama is black and has done something many people thought would not be achieved but he is a product of the same machinery that perpetuates the vast income divide, bully-like foreign policy and wealth based elitism that is charactersitic of the American Brand.<BR/><BR/>Obama doesn't have any concrete policy positions; he has no clear holisitc plans to curb global warming, spread democracy and liberty in the world or even mend the Iraq war. Add to this his support of that monstrous bail-out plan that does nothing but solidify income divides. I will utter blasphemy here and say, on matters of policy, Obama is not fundamentally all that different to Bush.<BR/><BR/>The way people celebrate the Obama victory you'd swear that through bottom up changes in the African-American society at large it became possible for upward mobility and so eventually some highly worthy person was able to ascend to the office of president in culmination of a mass effort of the people. That's not what happened. People seem to think that his victory will have a top-down effect, but as is obvious from the income divide the American system is designed to keep the benefits afforded to those at the top at the top.<BR/><BR/>13 candidates, thirteen(!) ran for the office of US president last night. One was a black woman with fairly well articulated policy positions and a mind for comprehensive change to the broken system.
